ROBIN ALVAREZ, B.Sc., FCA, was trained by Hacker Young and Arthur Andersen. He then ran his own company, selling it in 1989. He has a unique understanding of the concerns of the proprietors of business when seeking finance or selling their businesses. His experience in manufacturing companies has given him an in depth knowledge of computerised manufacturing systems. His recent consultancy activities includes a computer "right sizing" project where the savings resulted in a payback period of 5 months. His approach is always commercial.

JONATHAN BLOCH BA, LLB, LLM, studied law and then embarked on a career in publishing. He was a main board director of IBC plc and ran their US subsidiary. He currently acts as adviser to numerous companies in the services sector specialising in acquisitions and corporate restructuring. He also owns a data provider specialising in providing software and data to stockbrokers and banks.

JO CLYDE BSc., MSc., lives in Oxon and has a special interest in restructuring and M & A. She has worked within the Services sector for over 20 years, mainly in a technical environment. She now runs her own business specialising in commercial interim management and business planning.

PETER CROOK, Director with experience, through consultancy and executive management, of directing strategy and leading business improvement in SMEs, corporates and government agencies. Successfully planned and managed change to improve bottom-line performance in commercial industry. Analytical skills and expertise in finance, marketing and operations founded in a Cranfield MBA and earlier engineering project management.

OLIVER DIGGLE FCA, lives in Dereham and has been running his own management and consulting practice for ten years, working with smaller and medium sized companies as part-time Finance Director, Managing Director and a non-executive Director, or as a consultant working on company development. Prior to that he was in industry and with P-E International plc and then in the Venture Capital Industry with Thompson Clive and Candover.

MICHAEL FAIRBAIRN B.Sc., ACA, lives in Hertfordshire. He qualified with KPMG and was then a management consultant at Arthur Andersen. He has held senior financial positions in Investment Banks over the last 16 years, managing acquisitions and disposals, system implementations, reorganisations and significant regulatory change. In 1996, he set up his own management consultancy focusing on small to medium-sized enterprises and specialising in business and systems strategy, project management and financial re-engineering.

PAUL HARRIS B.Sc., MBA, has extensive experience and knowledge of industrial manufacturing and service businesses gained through directorships of various companies. He specialises in general management and business development. After five years with Lucas Industries he joined Dexion as Marketing Executive and became Sales and Marketing Director of a UK Plc before leaving to establish his own business in Corporate Funding and Interim Management. This has involved a wide range of consultancy and executive directorships including Finance and Administration Director of a BES start up company and business development assignments in small to medium size businesses.

DAVID LEVEY ACIB, is a corporate finance adviser and company director with over 30 years experience. His career includes several senior roles with Barclays Bank plc mainly in London and New York. He has also served on several boards including ones where the company has seen spectacular growth and success. David has a long track record of success in the field of raising finance for small and medium sized companies from a wide variety of sources.

IAN MILES BA, FCA, was trained by Arthur Anderson and lives near Frome. Ian has over fourteen years main board experience with medium sized and small businesses and four years on a divisional board of a blue chip plc. His wide functional responsibilities include strategic planning, IT and engineering, and he has participated in and supported start-ups with both venture capital and private funds.

MICHAEL SYDNEY, After working with the Rank Organisation and Reed Paper, he joined PE International's Marketing and Strategy Division. Then as Deputy Managing Director of The Merrydown Wine Company plc he prepared the Company for its public flotation. Became an Associate at Thompson Clive, the investment management group, managing Dublit Investments Limited, which owned up-market clothing companies. Formed Michael Sydney and Associates in 1984 to undertake contract management and acquisition and management buyouts. Currently Chairman of Raleigh Leisure Ltd., The Grand Tour Company plc and Harrison Hillhouse plc.

NICK SABIN, Lives in London, and has particular experience in the management of downturn situations in small and medium sized companies. Having specialised in restructuring commercial debt, he spent over 2 years on the other side of the fence as managing director of a group of companies which itself faced insolvency. He also advises on the presentation and negotiation of financing proposals, having worked for 15 years with Morgan Grenfell and accumulated over 20 years experience at director level in the city.

NIGEL SMETHERS MA, FCA, lives near Leighton Buzzard and specialises in the provision of business advisory services and interim executive finance support to small companies. Before establishing his own practice he held a number of senior finance positions in public and private companies. The finance director small companies need but cannot justify on a full-time basis.

JOHN G WALKER, worked for 30 years in the Stock Exchange, and then in 1994 founded his own corporate finance company in the City to concentrate on mergers, acquisitions and medium size fund raising.
